The Night of Music in Gatchina

The Night of Music Festival is one of Russia's most spectacular and memorable events held in the open air. The stage is set on the smooth surface of the White Lake against the backdrop of the magnificent Gatchina Palace. Chamber music, superb architecture and natural landscape combine in striking harmony to provide visitors to the gala concert with an unforgettable experience.

Now in the fifth year of its existence, the festival has gained a special status on the music scene in St. Petersburg, with over 15,000 people coming to see it annually from St. Petersburg, Leningrad region and from across the country.

The sixth Night of Music Festival will feature prominent ensembles, such as the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra and the Karelia State Philharmonic Orchestra (Petrozavodsk). The concert programme includes works by P. Tchaikovsky, A. Borodin, E. Grieg, A. Dvořák and C. Saint-Saëns.

It is now an established tradition to conclude the festival by performing pieces in the crossover genre, which is a symphonic interpretation of pop and rock and roll music. This year's festival presents Symphonic sketches on themes from the music of Queen and The Liverpool Symphony, a collection of the Beatles' songs for symphony orchestra. This years’ Night of Music will include a choir, which further adds to the musical diversity of the event. Fireworks over the White Lake will bring the festival to a close.
