Night of Museums in the Gatchina District

The museums of Gatchina and Gatchina district invite you to participate in the Night of Museums, an annual event celebrating the International Day of Museums. Starting at night on May 21 and finishing in early hours on May 22, Gatchina’s twelve museums will be linked by 6 bus routs operating free of charge on this night only.

The Gatchina museum will participate in the initiative for the first time and will remain open from 9 pm through 6 am. Enjoy this wonderful historic and architectural structure from a new perspective by taking an engaging tour “Traveling through labyrinth of space and time”

“Get involved in the Museum Night in Gatchina” is the motto for the night. Using flashlights, you will be able to walk through the Arsenal hall, Chinese and Grecian galleries (damaged during the war and awaiting restoration, these areas are still inaccessible to the public in general), go up to the state rooms by the secret spiral staircase, and then continue the tour to view the mysterious tunnel. Modern and classical jazz music is to be heard throughout the night performed by Alexey Chizhik Quartet. Their program includes classical music pieces arranged for jazz and pieces composed by Alexey Chizhik himself.

Twenty minutes away from the Palace is the Priory palace, the only earth-rammed palace to survive in Russia. In front of the Palace, guests are invited to join a re-enactment of a knight tournament, an archery contest, a fire lighting ceremony, and an engaging program “Under the Maltese Star”.

In addition, more programs, installations and performances will be presented this night by the museums in Siverskaya, Rozhdestveno, Suida, Kobrino and Vyra.
