Opening Renovated Water Labyrinth
The water labyrinth renovation project lasted from May through October 2010 with total costs amounting to 2.7 million roubles. The project involved renovation of three footbridges, recreation of historical walks, and clearing of islands and waterways.
It is worth noting that the labyrinth includes four islands and a network of canals flowing into the White Lake. Created in time of Paul I, this folly will be greatly appreciated by those who enjoy boating on the lakes.
Speaking at the press conference, Anton Gubanov, the Chairman of St Petersburg Cultural Committee, noted that 14 million roubles more would be allocated in 2011 to renovate the palace and the park as compared to 2010 with the total amount being about 70 million roubls for two years.
Also speaking at the press conference, Vasiliy Pankratov outlined his 2011 plans that included renovating the Arsenal Wing, the Theatre and Arsenal Halls, the Marble Staircase, starting restoration works in the Greek Gallery, adapting the Kitchen Wing for museum displays, opening new displays at the Priory Palace, expanding exhibition spaces and many more.
