Voices of Bygone Days to Come Alive at the Gatchina Palace

The Gatchina Palace will present the audio installation “The Whispering Square” September 24 and 25, 12-6 pm.

On these two days, the visitors will have a unique experience of traveling through time. The entire space in front of the palace will be filled with sounds from the past: commands given by military leaders, regiments marching on the parade ground, ladies-of-the court whispering and their dresses rustling, dogs barking, and wheels of approaching carriages scratching. As conceived by the author of the installation, these sounds are supposed to evoke visual images of the past in listeners’ minds.

“We find this project fascinating mostly due to its emotional component. It enables the visitors to immerse themselves in history before they actually pass through the Museum’s doors, get the feeling of the atmosphere that the Museum has preserved,” said the Gatchina Museum Director Vasiliy Pankratov.
