STATE RECEPTION

Reception rooms were an integral part of all imperial residences. They were designed for the emperor to receive ministers, delegations of nobility and representatives of foreign countries. The room allows you to see how an imperial reception room looked like at the Alexandrovsky Palace.

Each of the objects on display in the reception ranks among the finest works of decorative arts and comes from collections of former palace owners. The arm chairs and chairs were designed by Karl Rossi in the 1820-s for the Alexandrovsky Palace in Tsarskoye Selo. The painting A Stroll in Palermo by Franz Ludwig Catel serves as a reminder of the Italian trip made by Alexander Feodorovna (Nicholas I's consort).
