PORCELAIN ROOM
Porcelain was featured prominently in the collections held at the imperial residences. Many of the imperial palaces had porcelain rooms arranged to follow European trends and also to showcase financial standing and refined tastes of the hosts themselves. At Gatchina, there was an extensive porcelain collection.
Of particular importance were presents from the Imperial Porcelain factory. Since the reign of Paul I, all members of the imperial family received special gifts from the factory board. These were usually one-of-a-kind artworks made with techniques innovative for the factory.
The Gatchina holdings include a unique collection of such quality, with some items on display in the Porcelain Room, such as signature tableware that belonged to Russian empresses, vases, decorative plates and cups.
