Precious metals
Like other official imperial residences, the Gatchina palace had a large number of items that contained precious metals and gems. Excluding coins, medals and religious items, the silver inventory of 1920 recorded 459 items of various uses, ranging from large bowls to bookmarks and buttons.
Over the 1920-30s, the size of the collection was diminished considerably as compared to the other collections. For instance, along with other objects, silver religious items weighing over 240 kg were removed to the State Fund in 1920. At the time of the overall inventory of 1938, the museum had about 1500 items made of precious metal.
